The Institut Pasteur has just launched Titan Krios, a cryogenic electron microscope which allows samples to be observed at atomic level. This cutting-edge tool will make it possible to advance knowledge on the structure of living things.
To access it, you have to enter a real fortress. The new microscope Titan Krios, opened on 12 July by the Pasteur Institute in the XV th district of Paris, is housed in a building created especially for him. This gigantic wardrobe, four meters high, requires many precautions to ensure its optimal use: temperature, humidity, amount of vibration and nitrogen are carefully controlled to be kept constant.
The building has its own ventilation system to guarantee a stable environment; the interior walls are shielded to escape any magnetic field from the exterior (metro, mobile phones, Wi-Fi ).
